Make summer a success!
Here are tips to help this summer's Gather 'Round sessions come to life. Please share them with your superintendent, pastor, teachers, or education team.
- Ask your pastor or worship leader to include Gather 'Round themes in worship throughout the summer. Use the worship resources in Leader magazine and on the Talkabout to help.
- Summer is a time when more visitors may be present. If your church holds worship before the education hour, make a brief announcement during worship inviting visitors to attend the Gather 'Round sessions.
- For a change of pace, mix up the age groups or have boys and girls meet separately.
- Invite a variety of people to be leaders through the summer, and allow them to choose the session(s) they prefer to teach.
- Plan whole-group activities that work well regardless of how many children are present.
- Invite youth or junior youth to create short skits on some of the weekly Bible stories to present to younger children. These could also be shared in worship.
- Each week, invite an adult to share a personal faith story related to the session's theme, or to read a story they select on the theme.
- Plan a "Seek Peace Celebration" for a Sunday toward the end of the summer, and invite the whole congregation to participate. Children could recite the Bible memory verses, act out a Bible story they learned, or show a project they worked on during the quarter. Sing, pray, and encourage one another in seeking peace!
